Magellan Limited launches vROVpilot: A Ground-breaking Leap in Deep-Sea Exploration Technology
St Peter Port, Guernsey – April 10, 2025 – Magellan Limited is proud to announce the official launch of vROVpilot, a cutting edge digital exploration portal that marks the culmination of over six years of research, development, and innovation. Designed to bring near centimetre level accuracy to deep and ultra-deep seabed mapping, vROVpilot is poised to transform how we explore, understand, and interact with the seafloor.
Leveraging the combined expertise of Magellan’s team in technology, engineering, and data processing, vROVpilot allows users to digitally twin and explore manmade and natural structures on the ocean floor in unprecedented detail. The platform’s capabilities were first demonstrated with the creation of the world’s first full scale digital twin of the RMS Titanic in 2022—an achievement that captured global attention.
“Magellan chose the Titanic as our first target because it’s the most iconic manmade object in the deep ocean, one that cannot be physically visited by most,” said a spokesperson for Magellan. “Through our digital portal, people can now explore the Titanic and other wrecks from anywhere in the world.”
Following the successful acquisition and processing of massive datasets, Magellan has now launched its TT24 data set, a high resolution data stream integrated into vROVpilot, now available to the public and scientific community. This opens the door not only to exploration of historical wrecks but also to geological features and man’s interaction with the seabed, including oil and gas infrastructure and emerging seabed mining prospects.
In future, Magellan hopes to be streaming live from its vessels as it conducts operations and Q&A sessions, aiming to engage and inspire the next generation of ocean explorers. The response from the global community has been overwhelming.
